Contemporary Art, Stained Glass and Hay Sculptures
A chef of many years, in lock down I started painting, which I enjoyed very much. I have also made stained glass windows and hay sculptures.
Being a chef is like a artist too. I am not in any art groups, I just do my own thing.

I work in oil and acrylic and am always looking to exploit the medium – the crispness of acrylic and malleability of oil – sometimes I use both. I try to look for the highlights and emphasise them. Shadows and reflections intrigue me and I look to tell a story. Being a little colour-blind means I see shades more clearly and I try to take advantage of this.
I usually work from my photographs and just enjoy experimenting with subjects and ways of mixing and layering colours on and off the paper. I use big brushes and rollers and at the outset usually have a clear idea of the picture I am trying to achieve; although this is not a rigid plan and I am often surprised!
Art Groups / Exhibitions
I am a member of several local Art Groups and have exhibited at many local exhibitions in Berkshire, Hampshire, Surrey and Oxfordshire including Reading Guild exhibitions, The Reading Art Exhibition, AppART, THAT Gallery and The Reading Contemporary Art Fair.
I am part of the West Berkshire & North Hampshire Open Studios, a member of the Reading Guild of Artists and organised The Reading Art Exhibition for 7 years.

Polo Oil Study
“Polo, which has been called “the sport of kings”, has become a spectator sport for equestrians and society, often supported by sponsorship. The game is played by two opposing teams with the objective of scoring goals by using a long-handled wooden mallet to hit a small hard ball through the opposing team’s goal. Each team has four mounted riders, and the game usually lasts one to two hours, divided into periods called chukkas. The sport originated from equestrian games played by nomadic Iranians. Polo was at first a training game for cavalry units, usually the Persian king’s guard or other elite troops”

Mark is a self-taught artist, and began painting in 1992 after attending classes by Alan Hume, a Staines artist whose draughtsman skills in watercolour and Pastel inspired Mark to start painting in watercolour.
Subsequently, Mark joined the Sunbury Art Group for a few years, but due to business commitments, discontinued painting until some 15 years later. In 2007 he joined the Littleton Artists Group, where he learnt to paint in oils under the tutelage of professional artist John Green.
Mark has exhibited at the Chertsey Gallery and exhibited at the Bank Gallery, Chobham in July 2010.

"Dear Chris,
We are delighted with our art website. In addition to all the items we requested, you have added many artistic details that really enhanced the site.
We would also like to thank you for your patience, explaining and talking us through all the concepts we did not understand.
It has also been reassuring knowing that you are on the end of the phone ready to answer our queries as they arise.
It has been a pleasure working with you.
Best regards."

"This is the second website that Chris and Colette from Surrey Artists have designed for me and I am delighted with the result. They put in an amazing amount of work collating a large amount of detail to ensure my paintings are professionally displayed.
The finished website has already attracted a large number of serious enquiries some of which have been converted"

“The best place in the UK – if not the world – to watch polo is, without doubt, Guards Polo Club. Situated in the heart of the impressive Windsor Great Park, Guards Polo Club was founded by HRH The Duke of Edinburgh in 1955 and he remains the Club’s President to this day, retaining a keen interest in all activities at Guards Polo Club.”
