Pen and Wash, Mixed Media, Acrylics
I first picked up a sketch pen or a brush in 2016! I have no formal art education, which perhaps explains the lack of a ‘style’. I love to record what I see, trying to capture a sense of place and time, drawing and painting where I live and where I travel to.
Pen and ink, watercolours, acrylics, pastels and mixed media are my go-to mediums. I love to explore and experiment: mediums and subject matter vary, but the thread that weaves through it all is my love of lines, textures and colours. I can relate to Walt Disney’s quote : “I can never stand still … I resent the limitations of my own imagination.”
Art Groups / Exhibitions
I am a Full Exhibiting Member of both the Reading Guild of Artists and the Wokingham Art Society. In addition to having my work published, it can also be found in homes around the UK, Australia, Singapore, India and the USA.

I work in Oil and Acrylic and am always looking to exploit the medium – the crispness of acrylic and malleability of oil – sometimes I use both. I try to look for the highlights and emphasise them. Shadows and reflections intrigue me and I look to tell a story. Being a little colour-blind means I see shades more clearly and I try to take advantage of this.
I usually work from my photographs and just enjoy experimenting with subjects and ways of mixing and layering colours on and off the paper. I use big brushes and rollers and at the outset usually have a clear idea of the picture I am trying to achieve; although this is not a rigid plan and I am often surprised!
Art Groups / Exhibitions
I am a member of several local Art Groups and have exhibited at many local exhibitions in Berkshire, Hampshire, Surrey and Oxfordshire including Reading Guild exhibitions, The Reading Art Exhibition, AppART, THAT Gallery and The Reading Contemporary Art Fair.
I am part of the West Berkshire & North Hampshire Open Studios, a member of the Reading Guild of Artists and organised The Reading Art Exhibition for 7 years.

Reading Town Hall
I have always been fascinated by terracotta architecture and Reading has its fair share of these buildings remaining in the town. One of my favourites is Reading Town Hall with its beautiful red and grey brickwork and imposing Clock Tower. I have tried to paint this iconic building in an impressionistic style with the Clock Tower in focus.

Kusum Shabong
Watercolour Artist
Kusum Shabong is a self-taught Watercolour artist living in Reading, Berkshire. Although she has enjoyed painting from a young age, she has only seriously started pursuing it for the past six years. She enjoys the medium because of its immediacy and wonderful luminosity. She likes to try different styles and techniques and enjoys painting different subjects, primarily relating to nature, flora and fauna and architecture. A subject of deep contrast attracts and inspires her to paint. Currently she finds herself drawn to the human form and its various emotions and is experimenting with it. She is constantly learning and enjoying her art journey tremendously.
She likes to work from photo references, although she enjoys 'plein air' painting too. She takes some time to study the subject and break it down to its different stages and finds herself painting mostly in a loose, impressionistic style using the medium in transparent washes. Watercolour painting has given her immense pleasure and satisfaction and she feel inspired by watercolour painters of today- like Chien Chung Wei and Thomas Schaller.
Art Group / Exhibitions
Kusum is a member of Art Societies in her area (Reading Guild of Artists and Wokingham Art Society) and these are thriving and active societies and have frequent exhibitions and demos and workshops. She has exhibited with them and is also represented by some online galleries. Her recent achievement has been being one of the winners in the Diversity Exhibition hosted by Doncaster Art Fair.

Greetings Cards
Thérèse has lived in Reading for over 30 years and uses the town and her allotment as two of the inspirations for her work.
She develops paintings from sketches she makes on location and some of the scenes captured become greeting cards, with the history of the place on the back. Some of her work has represented Reading with its twin town of Dusseldorf and she has been commissioned to depict many local buildings for promotions or as presents. She is very happy to discuss commissions.

Sera has been drawing and painting since childhood. She paints mainly in watercolour, acrylic and mixed media. Tackling human figure and perspective has always been her favourite subjects but she enjoys the challenge of different subjects. Regardless of the subject, to be able to use the light cleverly, create a mystical atmosphere together with technical and emotional strength is her aim. Sera also paints on glass objects to the effect of stained glass and exhibits these separately.
Born in Ankara, Turkey, Sera has a degree in Architecture. She lived in Stavanger, Norway from 1980 to 1993 and worked as an architect in the oil industry. Now living in the Woking area of Surrey, Sera is a member of various art societies and groups and exhibits her work regularly with these. She also teaches adult education classes and tutors private groups in mainly watercolour, mixed media and drawing mediums.
Fine Art Prints, Gifts, Greetings Cards & Christmas Cards
A collection of Sera’s paintings have been made available as Art Prints, Greetings Cards and a wide selection of Gifts. You can see them here: Art Prints & Gifts Portfolio
A collection of her work is also availabe as Art Prints in a range of sizes and frame options here: Framed and Unframed Art Prints

"This is the second website that Chris and Colette from Surrey Artists have designed for me and I am delighted with the result. They put in an amazing amount of work collating a large amount of detail to ensure my paintings are professionally displayed.
The finished website has already attracted a large number of serious enquiries some of which have been converted"
